What is the difference between 'Add Root' and 'Add Page' in the Page Manager?

WebLab-CMS offers two ways of adding new pages to your website.  You can do this using:

  • 'Add Root' - Adds the new page as a root page to your site map.
  • 'Add Page' - Allows you to click on an existing page/channel to add the new page directly into the sitemap.

ADD ROOT

Clicking this icon adds the new page automatically to the root of your sitemap as soon as you click it.  This is known as a DIRECT OPERATION.

You can then edit the page and move it using the drag & drop controls as normal once you have renamed the page.  Remember to save the page after renaming it to commit your changes to the database BEFORE moving the page inthe site structure.

ADD PAGE

This works slightly differently because 'Add Page' is a FUNCTION MODE as opposed to a DIRECT OPERATION.  Once in the 'Add Page' mode, WebLab-CMS will continue to add pages to the sitemap each time you click an existing page or channel.  To exit this, you must click on the 'Browse' Icon to return WebLab-CMS to the standard browse mode.

Once in 'Add Page' mode, click on the existing page or channel you want to add a new page to.  If you are adding a page to a channel, your new page will simple appear as the last sub page within that channel ready for editing.

If you click a single page (with no sub pages), WebLab-CMS automatically converts that page to a channel and nest your new page as a child page within it.
